Privacy Policy

YieldMaple ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how we handle it.

What we collect

  • Analytics: we use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages are read and how visitors find the site. Google Analytics records the pages you view, how far you scroll, clicks on links that leave the site, file downloads, the website or search that sent you here, and general device, browser and approximate location information (city and country). It sets first-party cookies (_ga and _ga_Z2RG6XRR21) that last up to two years so it can tell one visit from another. Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store individual IP addresses.
  • No advertising use: Google's advertising features are switched off on this site (no Google signals and no ad personalization), and we don't use analytics data to target ads. Google Analytics data linked to a cookie identifier is deleted automatically after 14 months.
  • Calculators: the numbers you type into a calculator are processed in your browser and are never sent to our analytics. We only record that a calculator was used.
  • Affiliate link clicks: we count clicks on affiliate links (which page and which button was clicked) so we know which articles readers find useful. The count doesn't include your name, email address or account details.
  • Newsletter: if you sign up, we collect your email address through ConvertKit. We never sell or share it.
  • Affiliate referrals: when you click an affiliate link, the destination site (Wealthsimple, Questrade, etc.) may set its own tracking cookie to credit us with the referral. We don't see your account or transaction data.

Browser alerts (optional)

Article and calculator pages may offer browser alerts, also called web push notifications. Alerts are off unless you choose "Yes, send alerts" in the YieldMaple message and then "Allow" in your browser's own permission box. The browser's box never opens by itself when a page loads, and no name or email address is asked for.

  • What alerts are about: Canadian rate and limit changes, TFSA, RRSP and FHSA deadlines, and new YieldMaple calculators. An alert links to a page on YieldMaple. Some pages carry affiliate links, which are disclosed on the page itself.
  • Who delivers them: OneSignal, a notification service based in the United States, together with the push service run by the maker of your browser (Google for Chrome, Mozilla for Firefox, Microsoft for Edge, Apple for Safari). The information below may therefore be handled outside Canada.
  • What OneSignal receives: OneSignal's script is loaded only when the alert message is about to be shown, or once you have allowed alerts. Loading it shows OneSignal your IP address, as loading any file does. If you allow alerts, OneSignal records a random identifier and a push address for your browser, your IP address, your browser, device type and operating system, your language, time zone and country, the times of your first and most recent visits, how many visits you have made and how long they lasted, whether alerts are allowed, and which alerts reached your browser and which were opened. It does not receive your name, your email address or anything typed into a calculator.
  • What is kept on your device: OneSignal's script keeps its settings in your browser's storage and, once you allow alerts, a small background file (a service worker) that receives them. When the alert message was last shown, and a "Not now" answer, are remembered in your browser's storage so the message does not come back on every visit. YieldMaple does not use any of this for advertising.
  • How to turn alerts off: switch off notifications for www.yieldmaple.com in your browser's site settings. In most browsers, select the icon beside the page address, then turn Notifications off. Alerts stop as soon as you do. To have the record OneSignal holds for your browser deleted, email yieldmaple@gmail.com with the subject "Data request". That record holds no name or email address, so include the browser, the device and the date alerts were allowed: that is how the record is found.
  • iPhone and iPad: alerts are not offered in browser tabs on iPhone or iPad.

What we don't collect

  • We don't sell your data, ever.
  • We don't use Facebook or other advertising tracking pixels.
  • We don't share email addresses with third parties.

How to opt out of analytics

Install Google's Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works the same either way.

Your rights (PIPEDA / GDPR)

Canadian residents can request access to or deletion of any data we hold about them under PIPEDA. EU residents have the same rights under GDPR. Email yieldmaple@gmail.com with the subject "Data request" and we'll respond within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

If this policy materially changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
