The Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) pays income support once a month, on the last business day of the month. The dates below come straight from the official schedule on ontario.ca. This page explains the schedule and the rules around it; it is not advice, and the exact amount on a specific file is shown in MyBenefits or on the monthly statement.

When does ODSP pay each month?
ODSP pays on the last business day of each month. When the last day of the month is a Saturday or Sunday, the payment moves to the Friday before, which is why the January, February, May and October 2026 dates land on the 30th, 27th, 29th and 30th. Ontario’s schedule also shows the September 2026 payment on Tuesday, September 29, one day before the final weekday of the month. The ODSP page does not give a reason, so check the table rather than assuming the last calendar weekday.
December works differently. Ontario says December payments “may be available earlier in the month”, and the December 2025 payment was issued on December 22, 2025. The December 2026 date is listed as TBC and will be added here as soon as ontario.ca publishes it.
The listed date is the day the payment is issued. Cheques then depend on the mail, so a cheque can look late even when it was issued on time.
Are Ontario Works payment dates the same as ODSP?
From January to November 2026, Ontario Works and ODSP list exactly the same payment dates. The difference is in the labelling. Ontario Works says payments are “on the last business day of the previous month” so money is there for the start of the month, and its table names each payment after the following month. The payment issued on September 29, 2026, for example, is the Ontario Works payment for October 2026. The ODSP table, by contrast, lists each payment under the month it is issued in.
December is where the two programs split. In December 2025, ODSP paid on December 22, while Ontario Works paid its January 2026 benefit on December 31, 2025.

How much does ODSP pay in 2026?
The official maximum for a single person is published for basic needs and shelter combined. Everything else (a spouse or children, board and lodging, the Work-Related Benefit, the Remote Communities Allowance for communities north of the 50th parallel without year-round road access) changes the total, so the table shows only the two figures Ontario publishes as headline maximums.
How to read this table: these are upper limits for one person living alone, not typical payments. Shelter is paid based on actual rent or housing costs, up to a maximum that depends on family size.
| Program | What the maximum covers | Up to (per month) |
|---|---|---|
| ODSP | Single person, basic needs and shelter (from July 1, 2026) | $1,436 |
| Ontario Works | Single person, basic needs and shelter | $733 |

In effect from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026; checked September 29, 2026.
The ODSP payment has two parts for anyone who rents or owns a home: a basic needs amount (food, clothing and other necessary personal items) and a shelter allowance (rent or mortgage, heat, hydro, water, property taxes, home insurance and condominium fees). The shelter part follows actual costs up to a cap, so two single people on ODSP can receive different amounts if one pays less rent.
Who do these dates apply to?
The ODSP schedule applies to everyone who receives ODSP income support in Ontario, whether paid by direct deposit, reloadable payment card or cheque. It covers the monthly income support payment and any benefits that ride along with it, such as the Work-Related Benefit. It does not cover other programs. The Canada Disability Benefit, the Canada child benefit and the Ontario Trillium Benefit are paid through federal agencies on their own dates.
Does the Canada Disability Benefit affect ODSP?
No. Ontario states that the federal Canada Disability Benefit does not affect eligibility for ODSP or the amount of the payment, and the same exemption applies to Ontario Works. That means the Canada Disability Benefit arrives as a separate deposit on its own federal schedule and does not need to be subtracted from the ODSP amount. Details on applying and amounts are on the Canada Disability Benefit page on Canada.ca.
What other payments land in the same month?
Many ODSP households also receive federal benefits and the Ontario Trillium Benefit, which the Canada Revenue Agency pays for Ontario. The table below lines up the October 2026 deposits from the official ontario.ca and Canada.ca schedules, so the timing of rent and bills can be planned around them. Each payment arrives only if the household qualifies; the CRA benefits also depend on filing a tax return.
| Payment (October 2026) | Date issued | Who pays it |
|---|---|---|
| Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit | October 5, 2026 | Canada Revenue Agency |
| Ontario Trillium Benefit | October 9, 2026 | Canada Revenue Agency |
| Canada child benefit | October 20, 2026 | Canada Revenue Agency |
| CPP and OAS | October 28, 2026 | Service Canada |
| ODSP and Ontario Works | October 30, 2026 | Government of Ontario |
The full calendars are on the GST/HST credit and Groceries and Essentials Benefit payment dates page, the Canada child benefit payment dates page, the CRA benefit payment dates page (which includes the Ontario Trillium Benefit) and the CPP and OAS payment dates page. Anyone with work income should also check the Canada Workers Benefit, a refundable federal credit for people with low employment income.
How is the ODSP amount decided each month?
The amount depends on family size, living situation, shelter costs and any income. Income from a job in one month sets the ODSP payment for the following month, which is why a paycheque in September shows up as a change at the end of October.
For a person with a disability, the first $1,000 of net monthly earnings is fully exempt. Above that, 25% of the extra stays exempt and ODSP deducts 75%. A $100 Work-Related Benefit is added in every month with earnings. A non-disabled spouse or adult child can earn $200 a month with no reduction, and 50% of anything above that is exempt.
A worked example with hypothetical numbers: a single ODSP recipient earns $1,200 in net pay in one month. The first $1,000 is exempt, and 25% of the remaining $200 is exempt too, which is $50. ODSP deducts the other $150 from the next payment, then adds the $100 Work-Related Benefit, so the net drop in the ODSP payment is $50 while total monthly income still rises. Actual results depend on the file; the caseworker makes the calculation.
When do you have to report income?
Earnings received between the first and last day of a month have to be reported by the seventh day of the following month. September earnings, for example, are due by October 7. Reports go in through MyBenefits, the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) phone system, or the paper Employment/Training Income Report that comes with the monthly payment. A month with no earnings still needs a report showing zero if the file requires monthly reporting.
Ontario is clear about the consequence: “Your payments and benefits may stop temporarily if you miss a reporting deadline.” A late income report is one reason an ODSP payment can be held past the scheduled date.
What should you do if your ODSP payment is late?
Ontario does not publish a waiting period for a late ODSP payment, unlike the Canada Revenue Agency, which asks people to wait several business days before calling about the benefits it pays. The route ontario.ca gives is:
- Check the payment in MyBenefits or through the IVR system, the two services Ontario points to for information about an ODSP payment.
- Confirm the income report for last month went in by the seventh; a missing report can hold the payment.
- For a cheque, allow for mail delivery before assuming it is lost.
- Contact the local ODSP office, found through the social assistance office locator on ontario.ca. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.
- Have the nine-digit member ID ready; it is printed on the monthly statement.
The Social Assistance Support Line (1-888-999-1142, TTY 1-800-387-5559, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET) is listed on ontario.ca for applications and application status. For a payment on an open file, ontario.ca points to the local office, MyBenefits and the IVR system instead. If the problem comes from a decision on the file, an internal review can be requested.
Does ODSP go up in 2027?
ODSP rates are tied to inflation and adjusted every July. The 2026 increase was 1.9%, effective July 1, 2026, and Ontario says rates have risen by more than 22% since September 2022. In a year when rates go up, the higher payment arrives at the end of July. The 2027 payment dates were not published as of September 29, 2026; this page will add them when ontario.ca does.
What are the common mistakes with ODSP payments?
- Assuming the last calendar day. The payment date is the last business day, and some months (like September 2026) come a day earlier.
- Mixing up Ontario Works and ODSP labels. The September 29 payment date sits under “September 2026” in the ODSP table and under “October 2026” in the Ontario Works table.
- Missing the seventh-of-the-month report. Ontario says payments and benefits may stop temporarily when a reporting deadline is missed.
- Staying on cheques. Direct deposit or a reloadable payment card avoids mail delays; the local office can switch the payment method.
- Treating the maximum as the payment. The $1,436 ODSP figure is a ceiling for one person; shelter follows actual costs.
- Paying rent late every month. ODSP’s pay direct option can send the rent portion straight to the landlord at the recipient’s request. The Ontario rent increase calculator helps check whether a new rent is within the guideline.
How can you plan around the monthly payment?
With one deposit a month, the last week before payday is usually the tightest. Common ways households handle it are paying rent through pay direct, lining up the other deposits from the table above, and keeping a small buffer for the gap between payments. The emergency fund calculator shows how much a buffer would take to build, and the Ontario money guide covers other provincial programs.
