The Alberta PNP is the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP): the program Alberta uses to nominate workers and entrepreneurs for permanent residence. This guide covers the streams as alberta.ca lists them, how the Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) system works, every AAIP draw published for 2026, the points grid, fees and processing information. Every figure comes from Government of Alberta pages read on October 11, 2026, plus IRCC for the Express Entry points. The page is education, not immigration advice, and the AAIP portal is the only place that shows the status of a specific WEOI or application.
What was the latest AAIP draw?
The latest AAIP draw listed on alberta.ca was held on October 7, 2026: 22 invitations in an Alberta Express Entry Stream priority sector draw for aviation, with a minimum score of 56 among invited candidates. The draw before it, on October 2, invited 123 Alberta Opportunity Stream candidates at a minimum score of 54. Alberta’s processing page was last updated on October 7, and no later draw was listed when the page was checked on October 11, 2026.
The table shows every draw from August 1 to October 7, 2026, newest first.
How to read this table: scores are Worker Expression of Interest scores on Alberta's grid, which has a maximum of 100. They are not CRS scores. Where alberta.ca prints 'Less than 10' instead of a number, the table shows the same wording.

September had 11 draws and at least 1,432 invitations, and the two October draws listed so far add 145. The largest was the September 1 Alberta Opportunity Stream draw, with 575 invitations at a minimum score of 56.
Two cautions apply to every number in the draw table. First, the AAIP states that the EOI score is not the only factor it uses to select candidates; it also weighs other information in the WEOI to meet program priorities. Second, it does not disclose recent draw parameters, to protect program integrity. A score above a past minimum is therefore not a promise of an invitation.
When is the next Alberta PNP draw?
Alberta does not announce it. The processing page says AAIP draws are not regularly scheduled and are done as needed to address sector needs and provincial priorities. What the record shows is frequency: alberta.ca lists 84 draws between January 26 and October 7, 2026, and 20 of them fell between August 1 and October 7.
Two published figures frame what is left of the year. As of October 7, 2026 Alberta had issued 5,541 of its 6,603 nominations for 2026, about 84% of the allocation, leaving 1,062 spaces. And 948 applications were still waiting to be processed. Invitations are not nominations: Alberta states that being invited to apply does not guarantee a nomination.
For 2026 the AAIP says it prioritizes draws and nominations for occupations in health care, technology, construction, manufacturing, aviation and agriculture, and for communities designated under the Rural Renewal Stream. Alberta adds that the list is not exhaustive.
AAIP draws in 2026 by stream
Grouping the 84 draws by stream shows where invitations went. The Alberta Opportunity Stream had 13 draws and 8,419 invitations, more than every other stream and pathway combined.
How to read this table: counts and ranges are worked out from the 84 rows of the alberta.ca draw table. Invitation totals leave out the six draws that alberta.ca lists as 'Less than 10', so they are slightly low. The February 20 'Alberta Opportunity Stream – Priority Sectors' draw is counted under the Alberta Opportunity Stream.
| Stream or pathway | Draws | Invitations listed | Lowest minimum score | Highest minimum score | Latest draw |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alberta Opportunity Stream | 13 | 8,419 | 50 | 65 | October 2, 2026 |
| Rural Renewal Stream | 11 | 1,174 | 50 | 55 | September 24, 2026 |
| Tourism and Hospitality Stream | 3 | 227 | 71 | 73 | June 18, 2026 |
| Dedicated Health Care Pathway (Express Entry) | 8 | 481 | 55 | 64 | September 9, 2026 |
| Dedicated Health Care Pathway (non-Express Entry) | 8 | 414 | 45 | 63 | August 19, 2026 |

Across all streams, the table adds up to at least 13,559 invitations in 2026. Minimum scores moved within fairly narrow bands. Rural Renewal Stream draws stayed between 50 and 55, the three Tourism and Hospitality Stream draws between 71 and 73, and Alberta Opportunity Stream draws between 50 and 65.
Other provinces publish their rounds differently. Ontario’s results are tracked on the OINP draws page, and Saskatchewan’s selection system is explained in the Saskatchewan PNP (SINP) guide.
What are the AAIP streams in 2026?
Alberta.ca lists 4 streams for foreign workers who live and work in Alberta, or plan to, and 4 streams for entrepreneurs who plan to live in Alberta and buy or start a business. The table uses Alberta’s own stream names and descriptions.
How to read this table: stream names and descriptions follow the AAIP home page and the application streams page as shown on October 11, 2026. Each stream has its own eligibility page on alberta.ca with the full criteria.
| Type | Stream | Who it is for | How it starts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Worker | Tourism and Hospitality Stream | Candidates who live and work in Alberta and have a full-time job offer to continue working with an Alberta tourism and hospitality sector employer | Worker Expression of Interest, then invitation |
| Worker | Alberta Opportunity Stream | Candidates who live and work in Alberta and have a job offer from an Alberta employer | Worker Expression of Interest, then invitation |
| Worker | Alberta Express Entry Stream | Candidates with a profile in IRCC's Express Entry pool that fits the minimum requirements and Alberta's economic, sector and occupational priorities; includes the Dedicated Health Care, Accelerated Tech and Law Enforcement pathways | Worker Expression of Interest, then invitation |
| Worker | Rural Renewal Stream | Temporary workers with a job offer from an Alberta employer in a designated community and an endorsement letter from that community | Worker Expression of Interest, then invitation |
| Entrepreneur | Rural Entrepreneur Stream | Entrepreneurs who want to start a business or buy an existing business in a rural Alberta community | Entrepreneur Expression of Interest |
| Entrepreneur | Graduate Entrepreneur Stream | International graduates of approved Alberta post-secondary institutions who want to start a business or buy an existing business | Entrepreneur Expression of Interest |
| Entrepreneur | Farm Stream | Experienced farmers who plan to buy or start a farm in Alberta | Application for nomination |
| Entrepreneur | Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream | Graduates with a degree from a post-secondary institution outside Canada who want to launch a start-up enterprise and innovative business | Entrepreneur Expression of Interest through a designated agency |

Three points about the worker side are easy to miss:
- Pathways are grouped under the Alberta Express Entry Stream. Alberta’s how-to-apply page lists the Dedicated Health Care Pathways (with Express Entry and non-Express Entry options), the Accelerated Tech Pathway and the Law Enforcement Pathway under that stream, alongside priority sector draws for areas such as construction, agriculture and aviation. The processing page gives the Dedicated Health Care Pathways their own nomination allocation.
- Most worker candidates need an Alberta job offer. Alberta says most AAIP worker stream candidates must meet its job offer and employer requirements. The Alberta Opportunity Stream and the Tourism and Hospitality Stream are described as being for candidates who already live and work in Alberta; the LMIA guide explains how employer-specific work permits are approved.
- Rural Renewal starts with the community. A community must be designated first; it can then recruit and endorse candidates. Since January 1, 2026 endorsement letters are valid for one year and each designated community has an endorsement limit.
The AAIP can close intake for any stream or pathway at any time without notice, and it posts those changes on its updates page. Alberta also offers an Eligibility Explorer, launched June 17, 2026, that matches a person’s answers to streams before an EOI is started.
How does the AAIP Worker Expression of Interest system work?
A person can only apply to an AAIP worker stream after being invited, and the only way to be invited is to submit a Worker Expression of Interest. The WEOI system has been in place since September 30, 2024. The candidate self-declares information in the AAIP portal, the WEOI is scored on a points grid, and it goes into the Worker Stream pool. The AAIP then draws from the pool by stream or pathway.
How to read this table: a dash means no fee at that step. Fees are paid online with a single credit or debit card.
| Step | Fee | Deadline or time limit |
|---|---|---|
| Submit a Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) in the AAIP portal | $135 | Fee due within 24 hours of submitting, or the WEOI is cancelled automatically |
| Wait in the Worker Stream pool | — | WEOI stays valid for 12 months; it can be edited without changing that date |
| Receive an invitation to apply to a specific stream or pathway | — | 15 days to create a draft application or decline; otherwise the WEOI returns to the pool |
| Complete, submit and pay for the application | $1,500 | 30 days from creating the application; fee due within 24 hours of submitting |
| Decision: nomination certificate or decline | — | A request for reconsideration must be made within 30 calendar days of the decision letter |

The rules that shape a WEOI, all from Alberta’s how-to-apply page:
- One WEOI per person. A new WEOI cannot be created while the person has an existing WEOI, an Entrepreneur EOI, or a draft or active AAIP application.
- No drafts. The WEOI form cannot be saved part-way, so the whole form is completed in one sitting. The portal shows the score before submission.
- No minimum score to submit, but the grid sets a language floor: at least CLB 4 in English or NCLC 4 in French in all four skills.
- A preferred stream is only a preference. Alberta may invite a candidate to a different stream or pathway than the one named in the WEOI.
- Edits are allowed. Since May 26, 2026 a submitted WEOI can be edited in the portal. It is not eligible for selection while it is being edited, and unsaved edits are dropped after 1 hour.
- Wage and hours fields matter. WEOIs submitted on or after February 25, 2026 include wage and hours of work for candidates with an Alberta job offer. Alberta says older WEOIs without that information are not considered in draws that use it.
- Cancelled means gone. A cancelled WEOI cannot be reinstated, and the fee is not refunded.
The AAIP checks claimed points twice: when a candidate is invited, and again when the application is assessed. Alberta says a discrepancy can lead to a cancelled invitation or a declined application, and that incorrect or fraudulent information can lead to a ban from applying for a period of time.
How are AAIP points calculated?
The Worker EOI points grid has a maximum of 100 points: 69 for human capital factors and 31 for economic factors. The version on alberta.ca is dated September 28, 2026.
How to read this table: language points use the lowest of the four test results (listening, reading, writing, speaking). Alberta scores English and French separately and counts the higher result. Work experience in Canada is scored the same way: Alberta or another province, whichever gives more.
| Group | Factor | Maximum points | Points by answer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Human capital | Highest level of education | 12 | Doctorate 12; master's 10; bachelor's 7; trades certificate or diploma 7; diploma or certificate 4; secondary school or lower 0 |
| Human capital | Where the highest education was completed in Canada | 10 | Alberta 10; another province or territory 6 |
| Human capital | General language proficiency (lowest of the four skills) | 10 | English: CLB 6 or higher 10, CLB 5 8, CLB 4 5. French: NCLC 6 or higher 8, NCLC 5 5, NCLC 4 3. The higher of the two results counts |
| Human capital | Bilingual language proficiency | 3 | CLB or NCLC 4 or higher in both English and French |
| Human capital | Total work experience (Canada and abroad) | 11 | 12 months or more 11; 6 to 11 months 7; less than 6 months 3 |
| Human capital | Work experience in Canada | 10 | 6 months or more in Alberta 10; 6 months or more in another province or territory 6 |
| Human capital | Age | 5 | 18 to 20 years 3; 21 to 34 years 5; 35 to 49 years 4; 50 and older 3 |
| Human capital | Family connection in Alberta | 8 | A parent, child or sibling living in Alberta who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident over 18 |
| Economic | Job offer for permanent full-time employment in Alberta | 10 | Permanent, non-seasonal, full-time job offer |
| Economic | Job offer in a select rural community or sector | 6 | Rural Renewal Stream endorsement letter 6; tourism and hospitality job offer from a member of a required sector association 6; law enforcement job offer from an Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police member 6 |
| Economic | Alberta job offer location | 5 | Calgary census metropolitan area 0; Edmonton census metropolitan area 0; Rural Renewal Stream designated community 5; any other Alberta community 5 |
| Economic | Job offer in a regulated occupation, with Alberta certification or licence | 10 | Recognized certification or licence from the Alberta regulator, or a trade certificate recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training |

The WEOI also collects information that earns no points but can be used to pick candidates for a draw.
How to read this table: Alberta says it collects these details to support draws that match sector labour needs and other program priorities.

A few details from Alberta’s answers to common questions change how the grid works in practice. Education points go to the highest credential only, and a credential earned outside Canada is claimed from an Educational Credential Assessment report. Work experience must have been full time and paid, and experience in Canada must have been authorized by IRCC. Family connection points cover a parent, child or sibling in Alberta, not in-laws. Because language points follow the lowest skill, the IELTS to CLB conversion guide is a quick way to see where a test result lands.
AAIP calculator by hand: the same candidate in Calgary and in Red Deer
Alberta publishes the grid as a PDF, and the AAIP portal shows a score only inside the WEOI form, so a check before starting a WEOI is a sum done by hand from the grid. Take a hypothetical candidate aged 29 with a bachelor’s degree earned outside Canada, English at CLB 7, 3 years of total work experience including 10 months in Alberta, no family in the province, and a permanent full-time job offer in an occupation that is not regulated.
From the grid: the bachelor’s degree gives 7, CLB 7 gives 10, total work experience gives 11, Alberta work experience gives 10, age gives 5 and the job offer gives 10. With the job in Calgary, which earns no location points, the score is 53. With the same job in Red Deer, which is outside the Calgary and Edmonton census metropolitan areas, the score is 58.
For comparison only, the October 2, 2026 Alberta Opportunity Stream draw had a minimum score of 54, and the September 23 draw 58. A matching score does not mean an invitation, because the AAIP also selects on factors it does not publish.
How much does the Alberta PNP cost?
Worker streams have two provincial fees: $135 for the WEOI and $1,500 for the application.
How to read this table: the $135 WEOI fee has applied since April 7, 2026 and the $1,500 application fee since April 1, 2025.
| Fee | Amount | When it is paid |
|---|---|---|
| Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) | $135 | Within 24 hours of submitting the WEOI; non-refundable, covers 12 months in the pool |
| Worker stream application | $1,500 | Within 24 hours of submitting the application; non-refundable whether or not a nomination is issued |

A worker who is invited and applies pays Alberta $1,635 in total. Entrepreneur streams use a different schedule: $200 for an Entrepreneur Expression of Interest and $3,500 for a Business Application, which is also the Farm Stream application fee.
How to read this table: from Alberta's 2026 AAIP fee schedule, in effect since April 7, 2026.
| Fee | Applies to |
|---|---|
| $135 | Worker Expression of Interest (from April 7, 2026) |
| $1,500 | Application to a worker stream: Alberta Opportunity, Alberta Express Entry, Rural Renewal, Tourism and Hospitality |
| $200 | Entrepreneur Expression of Interest: Graduate Entrepreneur, Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur, Rural Entrepreneur |
| $3,500 | Application (Business Application) to Graduate Entrepreneur, Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur, Rural Entrepreneur or Farm Stream |

The same schedule lists smaller service fees: $150 to extend a nomination and $250 for a request for reconsideration. Things that catch people out on fees:
- 24 hours to pay. A WEOI or an application that is not paid for within 24 hours of submission is cancelled automatically. A cancelled application means a new WEOI and a new wait for an invitation.
- No refunds. The application fee is kept whether or not a nomination is issued, and the fees for a cancelled or withdrawn EOI or application are not returned.
- Employers cannot charge for a job. Alberta states that employers and employment agencies cannot charge employees fees for a job or employment offer.
Federal costs come on top. After a nomination, the nominee applies to IRCC and pays its permanent residence fees, which are set out in the Canada PR fees guide.
How long does AAIP processing take?
Alberta does not publish a number of weeks or months. For each stream, the processing page shows nominations issued, spaces left, applications waiting, and the receipt date of the applications it is assessing now.
How to read this table: Alberta says these figures can change without notice and that it can move allocations between streams or pathways at any time. For the entrepreneur streams the 'to be processed' figure is applications at varying stages of processing. The Alberta Opportunity Stream date currently excludes applicants who received a work permit support letter under the federal temporary public policy for prospective nominees.
| Stream or pathway | 2026 allocation | Nominations issued | Spaces remaining | Applications to be processed | Assessing applications received on or before |

The gap between the update date and the “assessing” date gives a rough sense of the queue. For the Alberta Opportunity Stream it was 86 days, or about 12 weeks; for the Rural Renewal Stream, 51 days. That is a snapshot of where the queue stood, not a service standard, and Alberta notes that Rural Renewal times vary with application volumes from designated communities.
How to read this table: the allocation rose to 6,603 after IRCC added 200 nominations, announced August 10, 2026. Nominations for practice-ready physicians and Francophones under the additional federal spaces are not counted against it.
| Measure | Number |
|---|---|
| 2026 nomination allocation | 6,603 |
| 2026 nominations issued | 5,541 |
| 2026 nomination spaces remaining | 1,062 |
| Applications to be processed | 948 |
| Extra nominations issued for physicians (outside the allocation) | 50 |
| Extra nominations issued for Francophones (outside the allocation) | 12 |

Three things slow an application or stop it:
- Missing documents. Alberta says leaving out required documents affects processing while the AAIP clarifies the information. The Worker Stream Document Checklist is on the how-to-apply page.
- Out-of-date information. Changes to employment, family or contact details go through the “Create New Request” function in the AAIP portal.
- An expiring Express Entry profile. Alberta Express Entry Stream applicants can submit an updated profile through the portal if theirs expires before a decision.
If an application is declined and the applicant can show a mistake was made in applying the criteria, a request for reconsideration must be submitted within 30 calendar days of the decision letter. It is reviewed only on the information already on file. Questions about the program go through the AAIP online contact form on alberta.ca.
How many expressions of interest are in the AAIP pool?
As of October 7, 2026 there were 34,478 WEOIs eligible for selection draws. The Alberta Opportunity Stream was named in 21,667 of them, about 63% of the pool.
How to read this table: counts are the stream each candidate named as a preference. Alberta notes that a candidate may be invited to a different stream or pathway.
| Stream or pathway named in the WEOI | Expressions of interest in the pool |
|---|---|
| Alberta Opportunity Stream | 21,667 |
| Dedicated Health Care Pathways (Express Entry and Non-Express Entry) | 1,179 |
| Rural Renewal Stream | 1,570 |
| Tourism and Hospitality Stream | 3,138 |
| Alberta Express Entry Stream: Accelerated Tech Pathway | 1,964 |
| Alberta Express Entry Stream: Law Enforcement Pathway | 48 |

Set beside the nomination table, the pool shows how competitive each stream is. The Alberta Opportunity Stream had 457 nomination spaces left for 21,667 expressions of interest, and the Tourism and Hospitality Stream had 15 spaces left for 3,138.
How does the Alberta Express Entry Stream connect to CRS?
The Alberta Express Entry Stream is the AAIP’s link to the federal Express Entry system. To apply, a candidate needs an active Express Entry profile, must meet the criteria of one of the federal programs it manages, and needs a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 300. The primary occupation in the profile has to fit one of the stream’s pathways or a provincial priority. A WEOI is still required: draws for this stream are run from the same Worker Stream pool.
When Alberta nominates an Express Entry candidate, IRCC adds 600 points to the CRS score. The CRS calculator shows a profile’s score with and without those points, and the federal rounds that follow are tracked on the Express Entry draws page.
The two scores are separate. The minimum scores in AAIP draw tables are WEOI scores out of 100, set by Alberta. The CRS score is federal and only has to clear the 300 floor for this stream. Alberta also says a candidate may be less likely to be asked to apply if the Express Entry profile expires in 5 months or less.

What changed in the AAIP in 2026?
Alberta’s updates page lists these changes, in date order:
- January 1, 2026: Rural Renewal Stream changes took effect, including endorsement limits for each designated community, one-year validity for endorsement letters and a requirement for applicants in Canada to hold a valid work permit.
- February 25, 2026: wage and hours-of-work fields were added to the WEOI.
- April 7, 2026: the $135 WEOI fee began. Before that date, submitting a Worker EOI was free.
- May 26, 2026: candidates gained the ability to edit a submitted WEOI and to decline an invitation.
- June 17, 2026: the Eligibility Explorer tool launched.
- August 10, 2026: IRCC added 200 nominations, bringing Alberta’s 2026 allocation to 6,603.
- August 12, 2026: the three entrepreneur EOI stream pages were updated to explain the existing economic establishment requirement; eligibility criteria did not change.
What mistakes cost candidates an AAIP invitation or nomination?
- Submitting a WEOI without meeting any stream’s criteria. Alberta asks candidates to confirm they meet the eligibility requirements for at least one worker stream first. An application that does not meet the requirements is declined, and neither fee comes back.
- Claiming points that cannot be proven. Points are checked at invitation and again at assessment.
- Missing the 24-hour payment window. An unpaid WEOI or application is cancelled by the system.
- Letting the 15 days run out by accident. The WEOI returns to the pool, and the candidate waits to be selected again.
- Sharing an Alberta.ca Account. Alberta advises against it, because a WEOI or application could be changed without the candidate’s knowledge.
- Withdrawing a live application to chase another stream. Alberta does not encourage it: selection is not guaranteed, a new fee applies and processing starts over.
- Trusting emails that are not from the government. AAIP emails always come from an @gov.ab.ca address.
- Reading a nomination as permanent residence. IRCC makes the final decision on the permanent residence application.
