Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) is paid once a month, in advance, a few business days before the month it covers. The dates below come from the official schedule on alberta.ca, which also applies to the new Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP) and to Income Support. This page explains the dates and published amounts only; it is not advice, and the exact amount on a file is on the monthly AISH statement.
AISH payment dates 2026
Next payment date
Tuesday, October 27, 2026
This is the date the payment is issued. Deposits can take a few days to arrive and mailed cheques can take longer, so allow a few business days before contacting the government.

How to read this table: each date is the day Alberta deposits the payment, and each payment is for the FOLLOWING month (the October 27 deposit is the November payment; the December 22, 2026 deposit is the January 2027 payment). The 2025 column shows last December's deposit, which was the January 2026 payment. When does AISH pay each month?
Alberta’s rule is simple: the monthly payment for AISH, ADAP and Income Support “occurs 4 business days before the first of the month.” Direct deposits land on that date, and cheques are mailed 6 business days before the first. Alberta adds that payments are made at midnight on the listed date, so a deposit can show up overnight, depending on the bank.
Counting back 4 business days explains most dates in the table (the Alberta stat holidays list shows which 2026 dates are general holidays in the province). November 1, 2026 is a Sunday, so the payment for November goes out on Tuesday, October 27. December 1 is a Tuesday, so the payment for December goes out on Wednesday, November 25. There are two exceptions. The January payment arrives early, on December 22, before the holidays, as it did in 2025. The October 2026 payment went out on Thursday, September 24, one business day earlier than a plain weekday count gives; Alberta does not say why, so the official table, not the rule, is what counts.
AISH payment schedule by benefit month
The table below lists each payment by the month it pays for, the way Alberta’s own table does, with the number of days since the previous deposit. The long gaps are the months to plan for.
How to read this table: the deposit date is when direct deposit arrives. Cheques are mailed 6 business days before the first of the benefit month. Days are calendar days since the previous deposit. Two cells on alberta.ca do not match the calendar: its table lists 34 days for the May 2026 payment (March 26 to April 27 is 32 days) and labels December 22, 2026 a Wednesday (it is a Tuesday). The dates themselves are unchanged.
| Payment for (benefit month) | Deposit date | Days since previous deposit |

In effect from July 2, 2026 to December 31, 2026; checked September 29, 2026.
The 36-day stretch between the December 22, 2025 deposit and the January 27, 2026 deposit is the longest of the year, and the same pattern repeats in 2026 to 2027: the January 2027 payment arrives on December 22, 2026, and the date of the next deposit after it (the February 2027 payment) has not been published yet.
A worked example with the published maximum: a single AISH client receiving $1,940 had about $54 a day to cover the 36 days between the December 22, 2025 and January 27, 2026 deposits, compared with about $67 a day for the 29 days between the October 27 and November 25, 2026 deposits. The December deposit is the one that has to stretch furthest, into late January.
Are ADAP and Income Support payment dates the same as AISH?
Yes. Alberta publishes one table for all three programs, so ADAP and Income Support deposit on the same days as AISH. ADAP began in July 2026 for adults whose severe disability substantially impedes work but does not permanently prevent it. Some AISH clients moved to ADAP at that point; people with a severe and profound developmental disability (or eligible for Persons with Developmental Disabilities services), a palliative or terminal condition, those living in continuing care homes and those aged 60 or older automatically stayed on AISH unless they chose ADAP.
For comparison, Ontario pays its disability program on the last business day of the month rather than 4 business days before the first; the ODSP payment dates page has that schedule, and Saskatchewan’s income assistance deposits are listed in the SIS payment dates guide.
How much is AISH in 2026?
Alberta’s Financial Benefits Summary, effective July 2, 2026, sets the monthly living allowance by client type. These are maximums: other income, such as CPP disability or the Canada Disability Benefit, reduces them.
How to read this table: clients with a cohabiting partner on AISH or ADAP receive 88% of the individual maximum, starting with the August 2026 benefit period. AISH clients moved to ADAP in July 2026 also get a $200 monthly transition benefit until December 31, 2027.
| Client type | Up to (per month) |
|---|---|
| AISH client | $1,940 |
| AISH client with a cohabiting partner on AISH or ADAP (88%) | $1,708 |
| ADAP client | $1,740 |
| ADAP client with a cohabiting partner on AISH or ADAP (88%) | $1,532 |

In effect from July 2, 2026 to December 31, 2026; checked September 29, 2026.
For a couple where both partners are on AISH, the household maximum is $3,416 a month, rather than two full amounts of $1,940. ADAP’s $1,740 plus the $200 transition benefit keeps people who moved from AISH to ADAP at their previous AISH level until the end of 2027.
People in an approved continuing care home receive a modified living allowance instead: the accommodation charge is paid up to the private-room maximum, plus a personal allowance of $373 a month.
AISH child benefit
The child benefit was recalibrated starting with the August 2026 benefit period, to account for the federal Canada child benefit and other supports.
| Child | Monthly amount |
|---|---|
| First child | $300 |
| Second child | $117 |
| Third child | $88 |
| Fourth child | $59 |
| Fifth and each additional child | $30 |

The federal Canada child benefit is paid separately by the Canada Revenue Agency on its own dates; the Canada child benefit payment dates page lists them.
Who do these dates apply to?
The schedule applies to everyone receiving AISH, ADAP or Income Support in Alberta, whether paid by direct deposit or cheque. AISH is for adults aged at least 18 who are not eligible to receive an Old Age Security pension, live in Alberta, are Canadian citizens or permanent residents, and have a severe, permanent disability that prevents employment. Non-exempt assets, such as bank savings, a TFSA or money held in an RRSP, cannot exceed $100,000 for the client and a cohabiting partner combined; an RDSP and the main home do not count.
The dates do not cover federal payments. The Canada Disability Benefit is paid by the federal government on its own schedule, and the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit (formerly the GST/HST credit), Canada child benefit and Alberta child and family benefit dates are listed on the CRA payment dates page.
What other payments land around the same time?
Many AISH households also receive federal credits. The table lines up the main deposits from October 5 to November 27, 2026, taken from the official alberta.ca and Canada.ca schedules; each federal payment arrives only if the household qualifies and filed a tax return.
| Payment | Date issued | Who pays it |
|---|---|---|
| Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit | October 5, 2026 | Canada Revenue Agency |
| Advanced Canada workers benefit | October 9, 2026 | Canada Revenue Agency |
| Canada child benefit | October 20, 2026 | Canada Revenue Agency |
| Alberta Seniors Benefit (age 65 and over) | October 26, 2026 | Government of Alberta |
| AISH, ADAP and Income Support (November payment) | October 27, 2026 | Government of Alberta |
| CPP and OAS | October 28, 2026 | Service Canada |
| Canada child benefit | November 20, 2026 | Canada Revenue Agency |
| Alberta Seniors Benefit (age 65 and over) | November 24, 2026 | Government of Alberta |
| AISH, ADAP and Income Support (December payment) | November 25, 2026 | Government of Alberta |
| CPP and OAS | November 26, 2026 | Service Canada |
| Alberta child and family benefit | November 27, 2026 | Canada Revenue Agency |
Does the Canada Disability Benefit affect AISH?
Yes, for most clients. Alberta’s July 2026 guide lists the Canada Disability Benefit as non-exempt income, and non-exempt income “is subtracted dollar-for-dollar from your monthly living allowance.” It is exempt only for people on a modified living allowance in a continuing care home. AISH also requires clients to apply for other income they may qualify for, including the Canada Disability Benefit, and to report when that application is approved or denied.
A hypothetical example: an AISH client approved for $200 a month from the Canada Disability Benefit would see the AISH living allowance reduced by the same $200, so total monthly income stays about the same, arriving as two deposits on two different schedules.
How does work income change AISH?
Since July 2026, an AISH single client, with or without dependants, can earn $350 a month in employment income with no effect on the living allowance. Above that, earnings are partially exempt with a progressive deduction. ADAP has higher exemptions: $700 for a single client and $1,100 with dependants. A cohabiting partner has a $1,500 exemption under either program. Alberta warns that clients “may see a change in your benefit amount” because of these new rules, and points to the AISH and ADAP benefit estimator and the income section of the monthly statement.
What should you do if your AISH payment is late?
Alberta does not publish a waiting period before a missing payment should be reported. The official route is:
- Check the date in the schedule above. The payment for a month arrives before that month starts, not on the first.
- Check the bank account on file. Alberta asks clients to contact an AISH or ADAP worker as soon as possible after changing bank accounts, because the deposit goes to the account on file.
- For a cheque, allow for mail delivery. Cheques are mailed 6 business days before the first of the month.
- Call the caseworker or the Alberta Supports Contact Centre at 1-877-644-9992 (toll free in Alberta) or 780-644-9992, 8:15 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, closed on statutory holidays.
- For an emergency after hours, such as no money for food or shelter in the evening, on a weekend or on a holiday, call the 24-hour Income Support Contact Centre at 1-866-644-5135.
If the amount is wrong rather than late, report it: Alberta pays the full amount of an underpayment for the whole period, and an overpayment is usually recovered at 10% of the maximum living allowance each month. A Notice of Overpayment can be disputed within 30 days.
When will the 2027 AISH dates be published?
Alberta’s 2026 table already includes the January 2027 payment (December 22, 2026). The dates for February 2027 onward were not posted as of September 29, 2026, and this page will add them when alberta.ca publishes the 2027 schedule. Any change to the $1,940 AISH amount or the $1,740 ADAP amount would appear in an updated Financial Benefits Summary on alberta.ca; the current one is effective July 2, 2026.
What happens to AISH at 65, and what is the Alberta Seniors Benefit?
AISH ends when a person becomes eligible for the Old Age Security pension. From then on, income typically comes from OAS, the Guaranteed Income Supplement and, in Alberta, the Alberta Seniors Benefit. The Alberta Seniors Benefit pays up to $3,946 a year to a single senior who owns, rents or lives in a lodge, and a single senior with annual income of $32,690 or less may qualify. It pays monthly on its own schedule; the next 2026 dates are October 26, November 24 and December 17.
The Alberta Seniors Benefit guide covers the full rules, and the OAS, CPP and GIS planner estimates federal retirement income, which helps plan the switch from AISH ahead of the 65th birthday.
What are the common mistakes with AISH payments?
- Treating the December deposit as December’s money. The December 22 deposit is the January payment; the payment for December arrives on November 25.
- Expecting the payment on the first. AISH arrives 4 business days before the first, so rent can be paid on time.
- Mixing up AISH and ADAP amounts. The dates are shared, but the maximums differ: $1,940 for AISH and $1,740 for ADAP.
- Not reporting a Canada Disability Benefit approval. It is deducted from the living allowance, and an unreported change can create an overpayment.
- Changing banks without telling the worker. The deposit follows the account on file.
- Forgetting that cheques are slower. Alberta says direct deposit gets benefits to clients faster than by mail, and a worker can help set it up.
How can you plan around the monthly payment?
A single monthly deposit makes the last days before each payment the tightest, and the late-December deposit makes January the longest stretch of the year. The federal credits in the table above arrive on other days of the month, and the December deposit has to cover most of January; a small cash buffer is the usual way households bridge those gaps. The emergency fund calculator shows how long a buffer would take to build, and the Alberta money guide covers other provincial programs and costs.
